Jack White/White Stripes ‒ Masonic Temple ‒ Detroit, MI
The story of how I took this photo is not as interesting as how I got to stand just left of center stage with my elbows braced onstage. Credit goes almost entirely to my son, Adam, who is a big fan of contemporary music and the White Stripes specifically. My color lab at the time, Tri-Color was going to publish a calendar with "Extreme" as the theme. I thought White Stripes, then a top local band with a defining red and white color motif. But how to get in close. Adam suggested going that afternoon to the Majestic for a sound check for a band that Jack White had an interest in, hoping that he might be there while they warmed up. He wasn't around, but Meg White was there and I pitched the photo concept to her. She liked it and said there would be a pass for me (and an assistant) just prior to the next White Stripes show at the Masonic Temple. Photos were composited for the Tri-Color calendar and several appear on the White Stripes website.
