My New Studio - Green Garage - Detroit, MI
Those of my clients who took the time to visit my studio at FD Lofts in Eastern Market know first hand what a lovely space it was and how much I enjoyed working there. So when the owner decided to turn my studio into a residential condominium with full kitchen and bathroom as his exit strategy from the rental loft business, I knew I'd be leaving. But I think I've landed in a really great place.
The new home of Brendan Ross, Photographer is Green Garage at 4444 Second Avenue, Detroit MI 48201-1216.
Green Garage is a building that started its life as a showroom for Model-T based automobiles in 1920, then spent 50 years as headquarters for a shoe repair supplies distributor, before becoming a state of the art, energy efficient, co-working space. Since opening in 2011, the Green Garage's principal work has been forming a diverse, supportive, and accountable co-working community and helping triple bottom line businesses grow naturally. I fall into the first category.
Things that I'll miss about the Russell St. space: fire engines and sirens right next door, skyline view of Detroit from Fisher Building to downtown, being in Eastern Market. Things I already love about Green Garage: The community of very interesting people, incredibly quiet (a benefit of having heavily insulated walls and roof), being in Midtown.
