Stryke Lacrosse Helmet - Warrior Sports Inc. - Warren, MI
Most times I'm invited to make photographs of already established companies and their products or processes. But there have been a handful of occasions when I've been in on the ground floor, at the very beginning of the company or it's product. That's what happened with Stryke Lacrosse founded by David Morrow.
A client of mine, Kevin Morrow, then owner of a steel-casting repair service near Metro Airport, had a son David who was an all-star lacrosse player at Princeton. While in his junior year, David told his dad about the poor quality of lacrosse sports equipment for even the country's best programs. The pair set about first to develop a lightweight titanium lacrosse stick, then a full line of lacrosse equipment, including the Stryke helmet seen below. Warrior Sports Inc. was born.
And I photographed some of the development, like mold trials at an injection molding facility. Then came the sticks, shoulder pads and gloves. I even shot the summer lacrosse camp presided over by Jake Steinfeld (Body by Jake), a co-founder of Major League Lacrosse. In 2004, Warrior Sports was acquired by New Balance of Boston and the rest, as they say, is history.
