Easter Vigil - Christ Church Grosse Pointe
For many years I've photographed baptisms at my parish using available light (no flash). The most challenging assignment is the Easter Vigil, a service which usually begins outdoors at sundown and processes into a church in total darkness. This year we began indoors out of the rain, but for me the darkness was deeper and the fire brighter. The tone range from dark to light was extreme.
Here Fr. Drew prepares to light the Pascal Candle and I make this photo and await lighting the hand-held candles which will bathe the sanctuary in a rich, warm glow. It's really the most beautiful service in the church year. I'll be back again next year.
